MEET JOHN CLARK IV, CO-FOUNDER & ART DIRECTOR

Hello. I’m John the Art Director here at Hop & Jaunt. I’m the guy who is always drawing, always sketching, often quietly working at my desk, headphones on, and drinking numerous cups of black coffee.

One of my proudest creations is Hop & Jaunt Creative, which I co-founded along with my partner and best friend, Alyson Kilday.  We created  Hop & Jaunt in 2009 with two goals in mind: 1) To be a bridge to connect and work with other amazing designers, innovators, and creators, 2) To build a company that would allow us to pursue our creative interests.

Since then I’m happy to say that we have done quite well with both goals. We have grown from a small two person design shop to an office full of crew members, and we have been fortunate to collaborate and work with a city full of great artists, entrepreneurs, and businesses.

We also continue to push our creative capabilities by working with some truly talented people to develop projects of passion.

Working with software development company CotingaSoft we launched CityKey, a sticker keyboard app for iOS and Android inspired by New Orleans culture. In August we announced Damesly, an online platform that connects professional + creative women through adventurous travel. Also this summer we released “A NOLA ABC Coloring Book” a collaboration with Dirty Coast Press that teaches children about New Orleans culture with cute illustrations and fun activities.

My favorite of these passion projects is “What the Sleepy Animals Do at the Audubon Zoo”, an award-winning children’s book that captures the charm of New Orleans with rich illustration and playful rhyme. We launched the book in 2013 working with local authors Ryan Murphy and Grace Millsaps. Since then the “Sleepy Animals” has sold nearly 30,000 copies and is on its way to becoming the iconic New Orleans’ children’s book.

When I’m not at my desk designing and illustrating, I spend my time playing with tools, making furniture and tinkering on my old Ford pickup.

Fun Facts:

I spent a year sabbatical sailing through the southern Caribbean boat sitting, working as crew and learning to free dive.

Favorite Coffee: Black coffee, piping hot, in the biggest cup available
