Downsizing
We only have a few weeks left before departure. The past few days have been so busy and hectic. Selling all our worldly possessions is beginning to feel like a sucky second job. And trying to give the remaining crap away is even harder. Months ago we moved from our little suburban house into a one bedroom loft apartment in order to save money for our trip. At the time we did some considerable downsizing of our possessions. We got rid of everything expendable and kept only the necessary items we would need for day to day life. I thought for sure we were living a pretty minimalist lifestyle, but I’m amazed at the amount of things we still have. Some items make me wonder how they even made it to the apartment.
For example: We’ve lived in an apartment for 5 months now, but I still have my old wood chopping axe. We don’t even have a fire place anymore. “Why did I decide to bring this to the apartment?” Clearly there were some flaws in our last downsizing plans. I have to admit though, it is quite comforting to know I have it handy in the event our apartment should ever have a security breach. An axe doesn’t carry all the legal burdens of owning a gun, and still its somehow much more terrifying. Insanely, maniacally, terrifying. Also, its a really nice axe. On second thought, I think I’ll keep it.
